How important it is to maintain eyeglasses?

Do we maintain eyeglasses to the optimal conditions they were bought in? We all put marvelous amount of effort in purchasing eyeglasses. But once we own them we care less about them. We saw many a people with grease lenses and dust settled hinges. There is nothing more a turn off than seeing a degraded pair of eyewear. It is neither hip nor cool in any way. You just look unkempt.

It doesn’t take much to maintain eyeglasses. It is really important because it is not only going to give you clear vision but it is also a matter of personal hygiene. Other reasons being offering the value for your money and it will last longer with the little maintenance.

Some of the few tips to maintain eyeglasses are provided below: 

  1. To remove any dirt, dust or any built in stains rinse off the eyeglasses under clear running water. Don’t rub it dry as it is going to scratch the frame and the lenses.
  2. Sprays and liquids specially meant for cleaning optical products should be used to clean off any oil, stains or grease left out after cleaning it by water. We can use optical lens cleaning spray to remove any stains or facial oil, which will not get off with plain water. Dampen the eyeglass with the spray and rub the surface of the lenses gently with a soft cotton cloth.
  3. Avoid using soap, shampoos or any kind of detergent cleaners to clean your eyeglasses. These chemicals can chip of the coating on the lenses and even the frame materials.
  4. Using the tail of your shirt is not a great idea to wipe your glasses. It may leave ugly scratch on the surface of the lenses and the frame materials.
  5. Always ensure to use a micro-fiber cloth to clean the eyeglasses. Also cleaning the clothes can help clear off the dust and dirt deposited on the clothes? Use mild detergent to clean the fabric or else it will destroy the texture of the cloth and make them coarse.
  6. Use both hands to remove and put on the eyeglasses as it will help in avoiding any stretching or bending of the frame out of shape.
  7. Wearing the eyeglasses over the head is also a bad idea. It will distort the shape. Even it may damage the eyeglasses if it slipped off.
  8. Try disinfect the lenses occasionally with a mild Isopropyl alcohol solution.
  9. Store your eyeglasses in its case while not in use or while travelling. It will help in the prevention of any damage.
Keep a check on the frame from time to time for any loose screws or parts. It will help in preventing the disrepair
