UV Protection Keeps Your Eyes Healthy.
We care for our skin a lot. A lot of man and woman would definitely apply a sunscreen before going out. But they forget the fact that sun not only damages the skin but the eyes too. Sunglasses are the only way through which one can protect their eyes. Though there are wavelengths of light that human eyes need to keep the eye at best health. Wavelengths like UVB/ UVA cause harm to the eyes. Here are five sun facts that will affect the eyes:Conjunctiva:
It is a thin membrane
covering the white part of the eyes. Exposure to sun can damage this layer. It
causes thickening of the membrane, irritation and inflammation to the eyes. If
the conjunctiva thickens, a pink, fleshy tissue will grow over the cornea of the
eyes. This condition is also known as surfer’s eye. Though they are
non-cancerous they grow slowly throughout life and eventually interfere with the
vision. Studies have shown that people
living near the equatorial reason or warm climates are largely affected by this
condition. So, for people living in India it is definitely a word of caution.
This condition can be prevented by using sunglasses.
You can wear them often or if you are not comfortable at least wear them when
the sun is at peak.
Retina:
Exposure to UV lights
can damage the retina. Macular degeneration, the leading the cause of blindness
across the globe, is cause due to the deterioration of the macula in the
retina. There are medicines to treat it but why to cure when the damage is
done? Even before the damage is done why not use a UV protected sunglasses when venturing outside. A little precaution will
save you your vision.
Iris:
Light coloured eyes
are more susceptible to UV lights. So, if you have been earning that
compliments all this time, here is a word of caution. Protect it even more now.
UV protection is the only way to earn those
compliments as long as you want.
Lens:
The lens can become
cloudy with exposure to UV lights. This condition is called cataract. Though
they can be remove easily through surgery. They affect the vision and sometimes
cause permanent blindness. Again, use of
a UV protected sunglasses can keep the eye
in healthy condition.
Cornea:
It’s not only the skin
that can get sunburned. The cornea too gets sunburned. Sun exposure can lead to
serious pain to the cornea and sometime leads to temporary blindness. For more details visit - https://www.eyedo.in/sunglasses.html
